Bursary Fund

The Catenian Bursary Fund helps Catholics aged 16 to 24 take part in community-based projects at home and abroad, which have a clear benefit for others as well as for the participant. Applicants for grants do not need to have any connection to a member of the Catenian Association.

In 2008-09  we helped two young people from the Knutsford area to join volunteer projects in sub-Saharan Africa.

Tony Andrews, 2008 President of Knutsford Circle, presents a busary cheque for £500 to Francis Galligan at St Vincent’s Church, Knutsford on 14 December 2008. Francis applied for funding from the Bursary fund to work as a volunteer teacher in The Gambia, West Africa for five months starting in February 2009. Organised through the Mondo Challenge organisation, Francis taught English and Maths at a village school and lived in the community.

hroughout his stay, Francis reported in his blog, Fran in the Gambia.
